Northern Valley Catholic Social Service provides low-cost or free mental health, housing, vocational and support services to individuals and families in California’s Northern Sacramento Valley.
Company History
Northern Valley Catholic Social Service, Inc. (NVCSS) is a not-for-profit public benefit corporation that was established in 1986 in Redding, California under the corporate umbrella of Catholic Charities of Sacramento, Inc. to serve the communities of Butte, Glenn, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama and Trinity Counties. In 2004, NVCSS became a subsidiary corporation of Catholic Charities of Sacramento, Inc.
The corporate office of NVCSS is located in Redding, California, with county branch offices located in Chico, Red Bluff and Yreka and other satellite locations in Corning, Gridley, Orland, and Oroville. NVCSS is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of sixteen members who meet monthly. Each county has a local advisory board that provides input and direction to the agency activities in that county. An Executive Director is the chief administrative officer.
NVCSS works with a variety of funding sources and operates under contracts from state, federal, county and local entities. Through these resources and with the help of private donors, NVCSS has made major accomplishments in service delivery through the initiation of programs and projects in housing, mental health, teen services, family support and community education. The agency currently employs over 150 individuals within the counties of Butte, Glenn, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity counties. NVCSS is a multi-service agency whose mission is to “reach out effectively in care and in love to serve the unmet needs of all people in our communities.”
