Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival
Company Overview
The Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival (JRMF) is a nonprofit on a mission to help all students build confidence, joy, and belonging in math. We do this by hosting Math Festivals at schools, libraries, and other community centers. At a Math Festival, students and their families explore a variety of hands-on, play-based math puzzles and games led by trained volunteers from the community. A Math Festival is an opportunity for the whole community to come together and celebrate math.
As an organization, we make hosting Math Festivals affordable, equitable, and stress-free in the following ways:
1) We host Math Festivals directly at schools, libraries, and other community centers. When a community hires us to host a Math Festival, we bring all the supplies, lead a volunteer training, and make sure the event runs smoothly. We also provide Math Festival Grants to Title 1 schools that covers 100% of the cost so that any community can afford to host a Math Festival.
2) We provide free and affordable resources so that communities can host their own Math Festivals. These resources include free DIY Festival Guides, free math activity guides, and Math Festival kits, all of which are available through our website jrmf.org.
3) We provide mentorship and guidance as communities plan for their events. This includes free Zoom and email consultations as well as online volunteer training.
Math Festivals are built on a foundation of student choice, collaboration, and play. We learn best when we enjoy what we are learning. Math Festivals are our way to show the world that math, despite it being commonly perceived as hard, boring, and scary, can be a joyful experience for everyone. JRMF’s vision is a world where every child (and adult) sees themselves as a mathematician, but we need help to make that world a reality.
