Position Overview
The HealthTree Foundation is seeking a seasoned fundraising leader to develop a strong and growth-oriented philanthropy program as the Vice President of Development. Reporting to the CEO and serving as a key member of the leadership team, the VP of Development will be responsible for designing and successfully implementing a comprehensive strategic plan to expand support through various revenue channels, including peer-to-peer fundraising, special events, individual and major gifts, corporate partnerships, and foundation grants.
The ideal candidate brings fundraising expertise, preferably within healthcare philanthropy, with a proven track record in creating fundraising strategies and building trusted relationships with donors and volunteers. The role requires a dynamic and hands-on fundraiser, driven by a passion for strategically scaling development programs, actively working to deepen the organization’s donor pool, and making a lasting impact at a growing organization.
This is a full-time position with a starting range between $150,000-$170,000, commensurate with experience, competencies, and skillset. This is a remote position (or based in South Jordan, Utah) with required travel to meet with donors, attend conferences, and the HealthTree Foundation events and meetings, as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities
Development (Fundraising):
Strategic Fundraising Planning: Partner with the CEO, Board, and staff to develop and execute dynamic annual and long-term fundraising strategies that align with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities. Establish best practices for growing development programs, optimizing existing fundraising activities and events, while innovating new initiatives to diversify funding streams.
Revenue Generation: Establish a culture of philanthropy across the organization. Leverage program, research and technology assets to create compelling donor funding opportunities. Oversee all fundraising activities and ensure the achievement of annual revenue goals. Monitor progress, analyze results, and adjust strategies as needed.
Donor Cultivation & Stewardship: Develop and implement strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors at all levels. Build and maintain strong relationships with key donors and prospects, guiding strategic interactions and compelling messaging to deepen and expand donor and volunteer engagement. Oversee a portfolio of donors to cultivate and steward gifts. Partner with the CEO, Board, and staff to engage and steward donor relationships.
Grant Management: Oversee the research, preparation, submission, and reporting of grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
Fundraising Operations: Lead and scale donor operations, including staff, external consultants, donor database management, gift processing and stewardship, budget oversight, and provider reports on fundraising progress, including key metrics, analysis of results, and recommendations for improvement.
Special Events: Provide strategic guidance and support for fundraising events, ensuring their success and alignment with overall fundraising goals.
Leadership and Management:
Collaboration: Works as a collaborative partner with senior leaders and staff to translate funding priorities into marketable philanthropic objectives leading to gifts, and to enhance organizational brand visibility and enhances mission delivery.
Staff and Volunteers: Lead and support a small, high-performing team of 1-3 staff members and guide operational readiness to expand and scale. Support effective volunteer engagement and management.
Organizational Leadership: Contribute to the overall strategic planning of the organization. Partner with colleagues to identify and structure funding opportunities for organizational priorities, including research, patient support and engagement, and technology. Partner with CEO to engage Board members to leverage their networks and support fundraising activities. Provide updates on fundraising progress.
Key Qualifications
Minimum 7–10 years of progressive fundraising and nonprofit leadership experience, preferably in a healthcare, science, or technology environment.
Proven experience in growing multiple revenue streams and overall development programs, including expanding donor pipelines, securing major gifts, and motivating teams to achieve goals.
Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
An understanding of the current environment for health sciences fundraising and best practices.
Passion for the mission and capacity to acquire an understanding of blood cancers.
Bachelor’s degree; CFRE certification a plus.
Ability to travel.
